Oh What a Night…. Out
On Saturday, December 7 from 5-9pm, we hosted our 1st Christmas themed Parent’s Night Out at DCLC. To say that the night was a success, is an understatement. The volunteers had just as much fun as the kids did! Most importantly, for 4 hours, the families of the kids we had the pleasure of spending time with had some uninterrupted adult time.
The kids began their night with a pizza dinner in the newly opened kitchen area. To get the group in the holiday spirit there was a hot chocolate bar with all the fixings. This was a very popular hangout spot.
The students were able to play in the ‘Freeze Dance’ room and dance along to their favorite holiday songs with some other songs in the mix. This room was filled with energy or should I say, “ It was filled with the sound of Christmas joy for all to hear!”
The students were also able to decorate Christmas cookies. They looked like works of art, but not for long. They were too excited to eat them. The students also had the opportunity to shop at the popular DCLC Holiday Store for their family and friends. They were excited to shop for others. To hear a child excitedly spot something a family member would love, shows the joy of giving that lives within them.
Upstairs, the students were able to watch a holiday classic, The Grinch. We also had a craft area set up where students could make a mitten, stocking, or snowflake Christmas ornament. They worked so diligently to make the perfect decoration to hang on their tree. The students could also write Christmas cards to friends and family. The things written from the heart will be cherished by each recipient.
It was a tremendous night of fun. You don’t want to miss the next Parent’s Night Out in February. So grab your sweetheart and make sure you sign up. Be on the lookout for information soon!
